Becoming A Member

Believing that the wonders of the universe outspill every category into which we try to fit them and that the ultimate meaning of our lives can never be permanently reduced to a brief written statement, Unitarian Universalists choose not to organize our church around a creed. We have a set of purposes and principles and a mission statement, but there are no beliefs which serve as a test of membership in our church.

Is This Church Right For You?

If you are seeking...

  • a liberal religious community which encourages spiritual growth
  • opportunities to consider religious questions with others who welcome dialog with people of diverse religious presuasions
  • a place to study the wisdom of great moral leaders from various times, traditions, and cultures
  • a chruch where children and adults are enabled to learn and develop their own beliefs without doctrinal constrictions
  • a place to develop, preserve, and extend the tradition of personal freedom and human dignity

...this may be the church for you. Welcome!

How To Join

After you have decided you would like to join our community, you can become a member by attending a monthly Invitation to Membership meeting with the minister. The Invitation to Membership is held the third Sunday of each month after the morning service. At this meeting in the minister's study, new members briefly discuss what has brought you to the church, make a pledge of financial support that is comfortable for you and meaningful in carrying on the work of the church, and you will sign our membership book. You are then a member — welcome home!

It is also strongly recommended that you take the New UUs: Sharing the Journey class, for new members and prospective members, before signing the book. This class will take place on three Sunday afternoons and culminate in a Saturday evening potluck.

Call the church office at 415-776-4580, for more information or to register for the class.
