Inclusion Assistant
Staff Youth Advisor (“SYA”)
Position Description:
Work in conjunction with, and lead youth (8th – 12th grades) in worship, social justice and social interaction (f u n). The SYA is directly supervised by the Director of Children & Youth Religious Education (“DRE”).
Per UUA Guidelines, the applicant must be over 25.
Work Schedule:
The position will be 6 - 8 hours per month; some hours are scheduled and some are flexible. On the third Sunday morning of each month (unless there is special programming), the SYA will lead a one hour Youth Group meeting. In addition, the SYA will lead a 3 to 6 hr. monthly outing, plan and dates to be determined by the SYA and teens. Also, the SYA will have regularly scheduled meetings with the DRE. Also, there may be additional hours to join all church or all Children and Youth Religious Education (“RE”) events.
Pay Rate/Benefits:
Compensation will be hourly at $20.00 per hour.
No sick or vacation time nor health insurance coverage is provided with this position.
All provisions of the First UU Society’s Employee Manual are applicable and in effect.
Qualifications:
- A combination of education (bachelor’s degree) and prior work experience directly related to heading, growing and sustaining a vibrant Unitarian Universalist youth group in accordance with UU principles.
- Ideas for creating and conducting a specialized program for youth that may include youth joining with C&YRE and congregational activities.
- Leadership, desire, warmth, enthusiasm and flexibility.
- Sophisticated computer/social media skills.
- Strong written and verbal skills to facilitate communication and community among teens.
Job Duties:
Building Community and interpersonal trouble-shooting: Have training in, and/or a gift for, listening and problem solving with youth; must also understand legal reporting obligations.
Communication/Publicity: Create a semester calendar/schedule of YUDDA meetings and special events. Publicize district and national UU youth events.
Curricula Planning: Assist youth in creating or joining programs related to UU principals of social justice, interdependence, etc.
Data Management: Maintain data bases of participants, attendance, permission slips, etc.
Meetings: Meet with DRE and, as needed, the Family Faith Committee.
Supervisory Skills: Work with DRE to recruit, train and supervise the adult volunteers who will work with youth.
In addition to the foregoing, the SYA may perform other duties as assigned by the DRE.

The writing sample should be a 200-500 word essay in which you discuss your vision and plan for creating a vibrant youth group at UUSF. If you have already developed such a program, explain how you would replicate such a program at UUSF. Be specific about any pitfalls you encountered and how you did (or would) solve them.

Inclusion Assistant (“IA”)
Position Description:
UUSF is a church that PROVIDES Sunday school Religious Instruction to Children & Youth ranging from infants to 12th graders. We also offer other programs such as music and art to round out our religious education (“RE”). The IA will support our UU curricula and protocols by aiding and assisting with students’ learning and behavior during Sunday school classes. The IA will work with paid and volunteer teachers. The IA reports to Laurie Moore, the Interim Director of Children & Youth Religious Education (“DRE”).
Work Schedule:
Assisting in Sunday school classes first three Sundays of each month, from 9:45 – 12:15 p.m., i.e., approximately 8 hours per month. We may offer some additional hours for other C& Y RE events that occur during the school year (September 11 to May 31.) This is for our Fall term, October through December, and may be extended if budget permits. December hours may vary.
Pay Rate:
Hourly compensation at $20.00

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of education (degree, credential) and/or prior relevant and successful experience working with children with learning challenges or special needs. S/he will also display warmth, enthusiasm and flexibility.
