Unitarian Universalists for Peace San Francisco (UUFP-SF)
Our Mission
The mission of Unitarian Universalists for Peace-SF (UUFP-SF) is to further the principles of world peace, human rights and justice. We focus on U.S. policy as it affects our country and its relationship to other countries.
We host public educational events, organize special advocacy efforts and participate in legislative efforts at the local, state and national levels. We often work in coalition with Bay Area peace and social justice groups, offering an opportunity to meet other group participants and learn from this experience.

Rev. Jeremiah Kalendae at Dec 2010 war protest
UUs for Peace at War Protest
On December 16, 2010, Unitarian Universalists for Peace-SF joined Veterans for Peace-San Francisco and Bay Area antiwar coalition at the San Francisco Federal Building, to protest the wars. The San Francisco event was conducted in solidarity with a simultaneous protest in Washington, DC. Twenty-six people were arrested at the San Francisco Federal Building for doing civil disobedience, and over 125 were arrested in front of the White House.
Among the featured speakers at the San Francisco event was Reverend Jeremiah Kalendae (pictured above), who invoked words against violence and war from Rev. Martin Luther King.

More About UUs For Peace - SF
UUFP-SF was organized in April 2002 in response to our administration's increased militarization - specifically at that time, the massacres by Israeli military forces (funded by the U.S.) of Palestinian civilians in Jenin. Later that year, UUFP-SF officially became a Social Justice Committee and has been active in local and national efforts calling on our administration to end the wars in Iraq and Aftghanistan; to reduce military spending (54 cents of every tax dollar) in favor of human economic needs; and to work through diplomatic rather than aggressive military actions to achieve peace. Leaders of this committee initiated the important February 2003 Congregational meeting which voted overwhelmingly to oppose the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Since then, UUFP-SF has:
Initiated many educational events advocating for an end to the wars and for compliance with human rights as set out in the UN Charter.
Lead congregational events to speak out against the wars: in May 2007 the Mother's Day Peace Ribbon around the entire church; in March 2008 Iraq: 5 Years Too Many; in October 2009 sponsored Noam Chomsky speaking on "Crisis and Hope in the Age of Obama" (see video below) ; and
Joined Bay Area peace groups in vigils, marches and civil disobedience - always taking a pledge of non-violence - and dialogued with local and national governmental representatives.
Senior Minister Gregory Stewart has participated in these activities and has instituted the reading of the names of the dead in the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan monthly at Sunday Worship Services.
