The New Americans
Sunday at 11 in the Church Sanctuary
The New Americans service conducted by the Rev. Fred Rabidoux

Things are moving quickly in this country and our leaders are forging ahead.

Are you planning to go along with them? Are you willing to forge your own way? Where will the courage come from to deal with all the changes yet to come?

Join us this Sunday for some help with the answers.

Joining Rev. Rabidoux on the chancel will be Yanik Crepeau, worship associate, and Dr. Mark Sumner, liturgist. Trustee Judith Stoddard will provide the welcoming, and the guest soloist will be Nancy Cooke Munn.

Come and Create Worship
Summer Arts Begins Sunday - 10 to 12:15 in the Chapel
RE Participant from Betty Skwarek
Acting Director of Religious Education

Sunday Summer Arts participants will decorate a worship enclosure and prepare their first service of the season. Everyone is invited, old or young.

Each person can choose which activities he or she would prefer to work on - writing, drawing, speaking, and more.

A professional artist and liturgist will be helping participants create a beautiful space and an engaging service which the group will take into the community.

Children are welcome as artists. They should be accompanied by a parent or by another adult with written parental permission.

If you have not registered already for the Summer Arts Program, you may sign up when you come Sunday.

For more information download the red, white and blue brochure.

Saving the Planet One Pledge Statement at a Time
Email Replaces Postal Service Delivery
Email Beginning this month, the church office will email monthly pledge statements instead of delivering quarterly statements by the US Mail.

This change will save paper and postage, and will keep members informed in a more timely manner.

If there is any reason you wish to prevent an email statement -- or if you want to be sure that the church has your correct email address -- please contact Nancy Evans before July 13. If you do not have an email address or do not wish emailed statements, you will continue to receive a quarterly postal mailing.

Thank you to the many members who have encouraged us to use more paper-free processes. The elimination of paper statements is our next step.

Denomination Elects New President
Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations General Assembly Acts
Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations President Rev. Peter Morales from Millie Phillips

The Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations (UUA) elected a new president, the Reverend Peter Morales, at its annual General Assembly (GA) which was held last week in Salt Lake City . The delegates to the GA also voted to keep the existing seven principles.

General Assembly attendees from this Society returned energized and excited from their experiences. They are planning to show CD's of the Ware Lecture and special worship services beginning in August.

"We continue to live in a world where fear and hatred cause suffering and violence," Rev. Morales wrote after his election.

"Greed and acquisitiveness threaten life on our planet. We are surrounded by millions of people seeking a spiritual home that is free and open. We face historic cultural and ethnic change in America. We must learn to express our love and values in new cultural contexts."

Serenity will be Disrupted, George Mayer Says
George Mayer is quoted in today's (July 3) San Francisco Chronicle in an article about the 15-story hospital which California Pacific Medical Center plans to build across the street from the church.

George is identified as a member of this Society, and his comments address the effects the huge facility would have on the Cathedral Hill neighborhood.

Grabbing the Brass Ring
Merry-go-round horse from Worship Associate Susan Anthony

Reflecting on greed in her credo earlier this year, Susan told of how her laid back, civil mother and aunts unraveled at the home of a grand uncle who had recently died.

"Auntie C, one of the most dignified ladies I've ever met, concealed a set of crystal liqueur glasses in her purse like a thief," explained Susan. "Clearly it didn't take much provocation to induce greed even in people who weren't given to it."
