T-Shirt Theology
Sunday, July 27 at 11 am in the Church Sanctuary
Members let their t-shirts speak at
City Hall service conducted by Reverend Greg Stewart

Here is your chance to deliver part of the sermon.

How?

By wearing a T-Shirt to worship that depicts who you are and what you believe in. In this church, what we believe matters. Moreover, this is one place where you are encouraged to articulate the tenets of a liberal religious faith. Congregants will be invited to come to the Chancel and share a bit of themselves as we embody the notion, "You are what you wear."

This T-Shirt Sunday will build on the discoveries made during the tee service last year, so put on your t-shirt and come on down.

Joining me on the Chancel will be worship associates Christine Patch-Lindsay and Allen Stewart, along with musician Hans York and friends. For a relaxed, fun, and inspiring worship service, this is the place to be — for you and the guests you invite to church!

Put Some Sunday School Sizzle Into Your Summer!
Which church has an all-ages (6-106), hands-on educational program that brings together members of our Society, families in the Tenderloin, and artists from the Presidio to design a giant mandala that will be displayed in all three locations? You are here!

Every Sunday in July and August you may join eager learners and leaders at 10 am in our Chapel to take the short walk to Faithful Fools Street Ministry, our "creation station" for putting hands and feet on our cerebral principles and purposes. We return to to the church at 12:15.

Please contact Summer Arts program coordinator Stillman Stewart (July) and Acting Director of Religious Education Betty Skwarek (August) for more information about this dynamic, interactive opportunity for religious growth and learning. You can reach them through the church office at 776-4580.

Stewarts Announce Wedding Plans
Sunday, November 2 at 11 am in the Sanctuary
Gregory and Stillman Stewart Senior Minister Rev. Gregory Stewart and Stillman Stewart have set a date for their legal marriage ceremony. The nuptials will be the worship service the Sunday before the November state-wide election. That ballot will offer Californians the chance to defeat an amendment to the state constitution which would bar future same-sex marriages.

The Stewarts have been committed to each other for over 27 years. They have had other ceremonies in front of friends and families, but none of them have been a legal marriage sanctioned both by the church and the state.

The Stewart's wedding will also mark the beginning of a marriage vigil at the church. Clergy will be available and the church will be open 24 hours a day from Sunday night, November 2nd, through poll closing time Tuesday, November 4th.

Details on the Stewart's ceremony are still being planned, but it will be public and joyous! Save the date on your calendar.

Best wishes, Greg and Stillman!

You Can Preserve Marriage Equality
from Rob Packenham and the
Unitarian Universalists for Marriage Equality

You can help defeat Proposition 8, the proposed constitutional amendment to allow unequal treatment of same-sex couples. Just volunteer a few hours of your time to make calls to potential volunteers and supportive voters.

You can sign up to join a phone banking party for marriage equality which will be held at our church during the next few weeks.

Hannah Johnson from Equality for All will speak during the service on Sunday about the campaign to defeat Proposition 8 and how you can help.

The vote is going to be extremely close. Your dedication will help Unitarian Universalist values win!

After the service stop by the Marriage Equality table and sign up for a phone banking shift to be held at the church. Or, contact Rob Packenham at (408) 425-1486 or by email to volunteer.

Happiness
Worship Associate Alison Rittger talked to the congregation about happiness during last Sunday's service.

She told us she's not holding Rev. Stewart, her partner, her kids, or even Barack Obama responsible for meeting her needs.

Read what Alison discovered about happiness from a General Assembly workshop on Compassionate Communication.
