Coming of Age
Sunday at 11 in the Church Sanctuary
Blue heron leaving nest service conducted by the Rev. Denis Paul

This Sunday we have the privilege of attending a service featuring our eighth and ninth graders from the Coming of Age program. For the past year they and other Pacific Central District youth have attended events including a ropes course and a silent vigil. Each has been working with his or her adult mentor to write a credo and complete the other program requirements.

Under the direction of Rev. Denis Paul, they planned this Sunday's service in which each will present what he or she has learned in word, song, art, or action. These youth have much to share about their spiritual journeys and experiences. Through their eyes we can see the world a bit more clearly and get in touch with our own spiritual selves more deeply.

This Sunday's service features our eighth and ninth graders who have completed the Coming of Age program. The highlight of this service is their credos. It is an multigenerational service. 10:00 programming will be the same as usual but at 11:00 everyone will go to the service.

Our early childhood program has been thriving. Our parents have been helping out when we are short staffed but that is not enough. We are hiring two new childcare workers. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have 6 ECE credits or the equivalent. For more information, please contact Betty Skwarek.

Adult Religious Education

Tuesday, May 12th will be the Adult Religious Education committee meeting. We are beginning to make plans for next year. If you have a class or an idea that you would like to propose, consider attending the meeting. It's at 6:30 in the space upstairs from the church office.

Newcomers are always welcome at the Religious Education Program
Activities for children and youth start Sundays at 9:45. For more information about our religious education programs for all ages, go to the Religious Education section of our website and select either the Children's Religious Education Brochure or the Adult Religious Education Catalog link.

"Whatever they grow up to be, they are still our children, and the one most important of all the things we can give to them is unconditional love. Not a love that depends on anything at all except that they are our children."
-- Rosaleen Dickinson

Our Future Awaits Us!
Good and Welfare from: Jane Park, Moderator & Matt Fuller, Vice-Moderator

Building on several months of work, Larry Peers joins us for an all-church event this Saturday. The event is open to all, and we encourage you to attend. Light breakfast snacks will be available at 9am, and our program will begin promptly at 9:30am. A free lunch will be provided to participants, and we will have you out the door no later than 4:00pm, but most likely a little bit earlier.

Larry Peers brings the Alban Institute's experience and wisdom to us, helping to build on what we already do well so that we can find ways of "doing church" that are spiritually meaningful and call forth the unique gifts within each of us.

Together, we'll explore ideas for how this society can help members on their paths of religious growth as they engage in church activities.

It promises to be a dynamic, inspiring, and meaningful day that will have a large impact on our future work together. We hope you'll make time to be a part of this amazing day!

Over $430,000 Pledged to Society's 2009-10 Budget
75 Percent of Members/Friends Committed So Far Toward Goal of $600,000
Jim Duggins from Bill Klingelhoffer and Ron Weber, Canvass Co-Chairs

250 of our members/friends have pledged $430,144 to the Society's 09-10 operating expenses so far. A record $342,000 was raised by the conclusion of the service on Celebration Sunday.

The Society's goal is $600,000. So more needs to be done so we can achieve the goal of expanding our programs and services to our society and community. You can make the difference and Share The Commitment.

If you have not made your 2009-10 pledge, please take care of it today by putting your Estimate of Giving Card in the mail.

If you have already made your 2009-10 pledge, please consider increasing it so we can make our goal. Consider Rev. Stewart's pulpit appeal from Sunday to add $1 per day to your pledge. Also, all Social Security recipients will receive a $250 check or direct deposit stimulus payment later this month and adding this to your pledge is a way to stimulate the economy and live your values. These two actions taken together can get us a long way toward achieving our financial goal of $600,000.

We know we can do it. So please pitch in. This budget allows us all to take our spiritual community forward in difficult times.

Please contact the church office at 776-4580 if you need an estimate of giving card or look for one at the Annual Budget Drive table after the service at the coffee hour each Sunday throughout May.
