In the Beginning God Created Heaven and Earth
Sunday at 11 in the Church Sanctuary
service conducted by the Rev. Fred Rabidoux
This Sunday we will look at the Genesis
creation story through a fresh filter to
determine what portions of it we might embrace.
You may want to re-read Genesis
1:1-31 ahead
of this service.
Alison Rittger, Kiam Cua, and
Millie Phillips will assist Rev.
Rabidoux on the chancel.
Solo and quartet pieces from
The Creation will be performed by
Reiko Lane, organist; Maria
Solis, soprano;
Laurel Sprigg, soprano; Stefanie
Goldstein, soprano; Kerry Parker, mezzo
soprano; David Jones, tenor and
pianist; and, Dr. Mark Sumner,
baritone and pianist.
Following the service, the Denominational
Affairs Committee will be selling sandwiches
to help offset the Society's costs of
sending delegates to General Assembly in
Salt Lake City. Come pick up a sandwich
outside the Thomas Starr King room for $5.
Or, stop by and drop off a donation.
Everyone Can Dance
Saturday (July 25) 5 - 9 pm at the Church
from Lori Guidos
In honor of Disability Pride Month, the Equal
Access Committee is co-sponsoring a dance
with other disability and aging focused
organizations on Saturday (July 25th) from
5-9 pm.
This pride dance is open to people with and
without disabilities and is planned as a
social action to increase self love and
social movement and to decrease alienation
and isolation within our community.
AXIS Dance Company will kick off the dance
from 5:30 to 6:30 by teaching dance participants
new ways of thinking about movement.
At 6:30 everyone can dance to the musical
mixings of Leroy Franklin Moore Jr. of Krip
Hop Nation who will be mixing a group of
diverse dance music, including music created
by artists with disabilities.
Order
a ticket to the dance online for $5-25,
based on your ability to pay. Or, buy a
ticket at the door.
Join in the Summer Nature Walk
Meet up Saturday (July 25) at 10:30 at the Glen Park BART Station
from Dolores Priem
Unitarian Universalists for the Ethical
Treatment of Animals Committee invites you to
join them in their only scheduled nature walk
of the summer. Meet at the BART station and
then spend the next 2 to 3 hours
traversing the trails of Glen Canyon and beyond.
Glen Canyon is one of the best kept secrets
of San Francisco nature lovers! Once through
the park gate at Chenery Street and past the
recreation center, you feel like you have
left The City. Red tail hawks are often seen
soaring above the park, and raccoon,
skunk, possum, and even coyote tracks smudge
the dirt. One surprise is Islais Creek, an actual
stream running through the canyon. It may be
the last naturally occurring, unobstructed
creek in San Francisco.
To tell fellow hikers to expect you, or for
more information, email Joe
Kelleher or phone him at 642-7828.
The Book of Rittger
from Alison Rittger
Worship Associate Alison Rittger's
credos, written and spoken with love over the
last several years, have been collected in
book form and will be available in limited
release at the book wagon starting Sunday
Undoubtedly, you will want to a revisit or
share these reflections delivered during
worship service.
Should there be a such an onrush of buyers
that the few copies printed to test the
waters are sold out, you will be able order
Alison's credos published by the First
Unitarian Universalist Society of San Francisco.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
Talk, Plot, and Plan... Sunday after the Service
Reduce, Reuse,
Recycle! We'll try to cover
all of these topics at this Sunday's
discussion.
Join Building Manager Donald Johnson
and Executive Director Nancy Evans
in the Martin Luther King Room at 12:30 to
review our current and proposed practices and
to brainstorm new ones.
If you are interested in volunteering to aid
recycling but are not able to attend this
meeting, please email Nancy
with "recycling" in your subject line, and
she will follow-up with you.
The What is in the Email?
from Nancy Evans, Executive Director
Did you receive an email pledge statement
this week? The statement will show the status
of your pledge at the close of our fiscal
year (see
sample). If your statement didn't make it
to the
inbox, please check your spam folders and
filters, and tell Nancy if
the statement remains Missing In Action.
Many members and
friends helped the
Society by making a credit card payment in
the final days of June. As a result, we have
closed the year in the black by the smallest
of margins.
95% of pledges have been fulfilled... a
terrific accomplishment in a challenging
year. Only $28,700 in 2008-9 pledges have
not yet been paid. (If you have an unpaid
balance, it is never too late to write a check!)
Thanks to every donor for your generous
financial support.
