To raise/maintain public awareness of the suffering caused by US border enforcement policies being carried out in our name, and ultimately to end these inhumane policies.
Responding to reports of the horrifying conditions in detention camps, the forced separation of families, and in particular the deaths of seven children, UUSF held a Memorial service for the children on July 23rd, 2019, followed by a rally on the front steps of our church. (Watch video here.)
Since then we have born public witness twice a week, on Sunday afternoons (about 12:30 pm) following worship service, and on Wednesday mornings (7:30-9 am) during rush hour.
In addition, a group meets on the last Wednesday evening of every month, 6:30-8:30 pm, at San Jalisco Restaurant (901 S Van Ness Ave at 20th), in order to write letters of support to ICE detainees.
On the afternoon of Sept 19th 2019, working with St Mark’s Lutheran Church and Or Shalom Jewish Community, we organized a special, Interfaith Rush Hour Rally. Over a dozen different religious communities participated.
Come join us any time during our public witnesses Sunday afternoons and Wednesday mornings, or for letter writing once a month.
Email to be added to the email list.
And/or start a public witness with your own congregation.
