The next Bay Area UU Meetup event is next Tuesday, 4/20 at 4pm. The purpose of these meetups is to foster collaboration across congregations, to break down the silos of knowledge and skills that current exist.
Our practice is to spend the first part of the meeting discussing and coordinating our various anti-racism efforts. Then we talk about COVID matters, before finally opening the floor to other topics. Finally we end with celebrations.
Tess O’Riva, Executive Director, UU Church of Berkeley
Joe Chapot, Ministerial Assistant and Young Adult Coordinator, First UU Society of San Francisco
We have a couple of guidelines for our conversation:
Bring items to share that are active! That is, some actions, events, etc that are being organized and led by you, another person, or an organization. Do not bring ideas and hope someone else will make it happen.
Compose your thoughts ahead of time! We usually have more than 10 people on a call and want to use our time efficiently.
Help take notes! A public notes Google Doc will be shared on the call, please help take notes about what is said, and you can add in prepared remarks as well.
We start and end on time to respect everyone's time and obligations
Why have a Bay Area UU Meetup?
Unitarian Universalism has a long tradition of congregational priority, with people connecting to their geographically nearest UU church. In the Age of COVID, we have an incredible opportunity to bridge the gaps between our many congregations. All Bay Area UUs are welcome to join us for our regular meetings to build relationships between the UU communities around the Bay Area. From lay leadership support, to professional and ministerial collaboration, to every UU and friends just getting to know one another, there is so much potential and power in collaboration and supporting each other.
