The purpose of the UUSF Social Justice Council is to coordinate efforts to realize the social justice dimension of the Society’s mission.
The Social Justice Council is a Select Committee of no fewer than six and no more than twelve members, recommended by the Sr. Minister, appointed by the Moderator, and approved by the Board. Membership includes both representatives of the Society’s major social justice efforts and members with special knowledge and skills in training, organizing, educating, and maintaining volunteer morale and spiritual depth while working for social justice. The Sr. Minister is an ex officio member.

The Social Justice Council Meets Monthly to:
Hear from working groups in Human Rights, Economic Justice, and Environmental Justice, and from other social justice organizations, such as the UUSF Society for Community Work and UU Forum.
Allocate budgeted funds as seed money for new social justice endeavors and events;
Consider proposals from community social justice groups seeking co-sponsorship of events
Plan quarterly open meetings at which all members of the Society may make comments and suggestions for new or improved social justice efforts
Work to see that the social justice efforts of the Society are sustainable, effective, well-understood and respected both in the congregation and in the wider community.
