What is
Environmental Justice?

Environmental justice is the recognition that all of creation is interconnected, and that the well-being of Earth and all its inhabitants is sacred. It is the belief that every person, regardless of their background or circumstances, has a right to live in a healthy environment, where the air, water, and land are protected and nurtured. Environmental justice calls for healing the deep-rooted injustices that have led to the exploitation of both the planet and vulnerable communities, urging us to care for Earth as an expression of our collective responsibility to honor the sacredness of life and all creation. It invites us to act with compassion, humility, and a sense of stewardship, working toward harmony between humanity and Earth.

What actions will
we be taking?

  • Facilities & Congregational Change: We’ll work on updating our facilities' use of renewable energy and reduce our carbon footprint across congregational activities (like coffee hour).

    • We’re looking for volunteers to help with coffee hour! Please reach out to Amanda
      atacsfca@gmail.com to help out.

  • Narrative Change: We’ll curate popular education events (Forums & Films) to help deepen our understanding of environmental injustice, highlighting local projects and action steps.

    • Upcoming Forums and Films are currently in the works! If you have any suggestions please email Gregory at gregory@interfaithpower.org

  • Policy Change: We’ll provide opportunities to push for stronger policies that protect the planet from plunder and profit motives.

    • Call your representatives and let them know how to vote on:

    • Make Polluters Pay Climate Superfund - SB 684 (Menjivar) AB 1243 (Addis)

      • The Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act addresses the financial injustices imposed on taxpayers and working families from climate related disasters by requiring fossil fuel polluters to offset the costs pushed down on the taxpayer for the damage caused and enhanced by their products. California would join Vermont and New York, the first states to pass climate superfund laws last year.

    • NO! on AB 942 (Calderon) - Breaks Solar Contracts

      • This bill would allow utilities to break the 20-year purchase contracts that homeowners, businesses, and nonprofits sign when they install rooftop solar. It would allow utilities to greatly reduce the amount of compensation for clean energy the property is producing.
