“Midst the Wonders We Have Made”

In keeping with our Labor Day tradition of quoting from the great union anthem Solidarity Forever, our title comes from the line "Now we stand outcast and starving midst the wonders we have made." "Outcast and starving" is not true for most of us—at least not yet—but the song lyric reflects the reality that much of what we make enriches a tiny minority far more than those of us who produce it, is often used to oppress more than to benefit the majority of people, and is contributing to disastrous conditions both now and for our descendants. Our latest challenge is Artificial Intelligence (AI), a wonder indeed, but raising daunting economic, political, and even spiritual questions for humanity's future.
