Celebrating Generosity: Guest at Your Table Initiative

Donate to UUSC now and get DOUBLE matching donations!

From Thanksgiving through New Year’s members of our congregation have kept Guest at Your Table boxes on our dining tables or other family gathering spots and “fed” them daily with donations to support the work of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC), our UU human rights and social justice organization. We have shared and reflected on the stories of UUSC partners who are confronting unjust power structures, mobilizing to challenge oppressive policies, and promoting human rights and social justice. We have especially focused this year on our partners in Central America and those working with asylum seekers from this area. We have welcomed these unseen brothers and sisters as “guests” at our tables. And we have been thankful for the opportunity that this practice has given us to reflect on the true values of the holiday season.

We will be gathering the Guest at Your Table boxes during the offertory at this Sunday’s worship service. If you are able to count the contributions in your box and write a check for the total, it will be helpful to those doing the count and tally after the ingathering. If you forget to bring your box or have not been using a box but would like to take this opportunity to support the work of the UUSC, you may use the envelope enclosed in Sunday’s order of service for your contribution. All donations entitle you to UUSC membership.

Donations from our congregation to the UUSC during December and throughout the month of January up to $1,000 will be generously matched by our own SCW. Donations at the level of $125 or more will also be matched by the UU congregation at Shelter Rock.

To find out more about the UUSC’s work, please go to their website at http://www.uusc.org/. or stop by the UUSC fair trade and information table after the service.
