2018-9 Scholars.jpg

Sunday, June 26, 12:30 pm, TSK Room / Online

Our first in-person SCW Scholars End of School Year Celebration since the pandemic will be held Sunday June 26th after the service. We will be celebrating the success of our incredible first gen scholars as they make their way through their academic career.

We will have a short program in the Starr King Room starting at 12:30 featuring our scholars and special guest speaker, John Trasvina - a prominent civil rights attorney and graduate of Lowell high school in San Francisco. Afterwards, we will have a banquet lunch in the courtyard. If you are interested in joining us for lunch, please sign up on Eventbrite (here) to ensure we have enough food for all. The cost for lunch is is $20 - no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

The program part of the celebration will be accessible via zoom for those who are not in church that day, but would like to join on Zoom.

The Society for Community Work (SCW) awards annual competitive scholarships to current high school students planning to attend accredited 2- or 4-year institutions, as well as to continuing undergraduate students who received SCW scholarships the previous year. We select students whose work will reflect the values of Unitarian Universalism as described in our Principles:  https://www.uua.org/beliefs/what-we-believe/principles and https://www.8thprincipleuu.org/

Awards typically range from $1500 to $2500 per year and are distributed prior to the beginning of the new academic year (usually July). Scholarship recipients are required to complete 12 units or more per quarter or semester.

Please Note: Dreamers not qualifying under the California DREAM Act are also encouraged to apply.
